SPECIFICATIONS FOR FRESH WHOLE PINEAPPLE (EXPORT QUALITY)

Variety Group: Queen North Vietnam, Queen South Vietnam, Cayenne

External Appearance

  • Fruits must retain their natural shape, be fresh, clean, well-developed, with crown intact and a portion of the stem remaining.
  • No cracks allowed (even healed minor cracks are rejected).
  • Shell must be free from mechanical damage, fresh bruises, sunburn, or insect damage.

Size (weight in grams)

  1. Queen North Vietnam
    • Small (S): 500 – >700 g
    • Medium (M): 700 – >1,000 g
    • Large (L): 1,000 – 1,300 g
  2. Queen South Vietnam
    • Small (S): 700 – >900 g
    • Medium (M): 900 – >1,200 g
    • Large (L): 1,200 – 1,500 g
  3. Cayenne
    • Small (S): 1,000 – >1,300 g
    • Medium (M): 1,300 – >1,600 g
    • Large (L): 1,600 – 2,000 g

Crown Appearance

  • Crown length must not exceed 150% of the fruit body height.
  • Natural and attractive shape. Slight curvature of the crown is acceptable in Class I and II, but the cut surface of the remaining crown on the fruit must be dry, healed, clean, and free from damage.

Stem

  • Stem length: maximum 2 cm
  • Cut perpendicular to the stem, clean, dry, and treated with approved fungicide.

Shell Defects (light healed scratches or scuff marks)

  • Extra Class: No scratches allowed (except very minor superficial marks).
  • Class I: Minor scratches/scuffs permitted, total affected area not exceeding 4% of the entire shell surface.
  • Class II: More noticeable scratches acceptable provided they do not affect internal flesh quality or storage/transport performance.

Maturity Stages (based on shell color)

  • Maturity 1: Eyes fully open; yellow color starting to appear on 1–2 rows of eyes near the stem end.
  • Maturity 2: Yellow color covers up to 1/3 of the fruit height from the base upward.
  • Maturity 3: Yellow color covers 1/3 to 2/3 of the fruit height.

Flesh Quality

  • Flesh must be firm, not slippery, soft, or spongy/dry.
  • Cross-section must be free from brown or dark discoloration.
  • Flesh color ranges from ivory-white to golden yellow depending on maturity.
  • Aroma: Light to characteristic ripe pineapple scent; taste from sweet-sour to sweet, no off-flavors.

Packing

  • 10 kg/box or as per customer’s requirements.
