Specifications:

  • Types: Japanese sweet potato (golden flesh, very sweet), purple sweet potato (violet flesh), orange sweet potato (deep orange flesh); graded by size S, M, L (firm, smooth skin, uniform shape).
  • Quality: Clean, fresh, no rot, no pests/diseases, no chemical residues, no bruising; meets export standards (traceable origin, registered growing areas).

Production:

  • Mainly grown in Mekong Delta (Vĩnh Long, Đồng Tháp), Central Highlands (Gia Lai, Đắk Lắk, Lâm Đồng – red basalt soil), and some northern provinces (Thanh Hóa, Quảng Ngãi).
  • Harvested after 4–5 months, washed clean, sorted manually or mechanically, often stored in MA bags to maintain freshness.

Uses (Culinary & Medicinal):

  • Culinary: Boiled, steamed, baked, fried, used in desserts, cakes; naturally sweet and starchy.
  • Medicinal: Rich in vitamin A (beta-carotene), fiber, potassium; supports digestion, boosts immunity, good for eyes and skin, helps control blood sugar, strong antioxidant.

Applications in Other Industries:

  • Starch & Food Processing: Extracted starch for noodles, snacks, syrup, beverages, thickeners, stabilizers.
  • Biofuel: Fermented to produce bioethanol as renewable fuel.
  • Textile & Paper: Starch used as sizing agent in textiles and binder/coating in paper production.
  • Cosmetics & Chemicals: Anthocyanins from purple variety used as natural color in lipsticks, creams; also in biodegradable plastics, adhesives, paints.
