Specifications:

  • Types:
    • Bird's eye chili (ớt chỉ thiên/ớt hiểm): Small fruits, 3–5 cm long, pointing upwards, fresh green/red color, extremely spicy (100,000–350,000 SHU).
    • Horn chili and other red hot chilies: Horn chili, large red hiểm chili, red chỉ địa chili; fruits 5–12 cm long, glossy bright red color, medium to strong spiciness (30,000–100,000 SHU).
  • Quality: Clean, fresh, firm fruits, green fresh stems, no bruising, no pests/diseases, no pesticide residues; uniformly graded by length and color.
  • Forms: Fresh whole fruits, frozen whole fruits (with or without stems).

Production:

  • Mainly grown in central provinces (Quảng Nam, Quảng Ngãi, Bình Định, Phú Yên), Southeast region (Bình Phước, Đồng Nai), Central Highlands (Gia Lai, Đắk Lắk), and partly in the Mekong Delta.
  • Harvested year-round, peak season from October to April next year; hand-picked when fruits reach 80–100% red color, lightly washed, sorted.

  • Culinary: Intense spicy flavoring, used for chili sauce, chili salt, dipping, stir-frying; provides beautiful red color and characteristic heat.
